I don't know what it is about this spiky green plant that has been making it trend for the past couple of months, but cacti truly are unique and almost painful (i.e the numerous spikes emerging from their pores) to look at? But painful in a good way. In such a good way that I woke up on a rainy day a few days ago, inspired to base my outfit around them

(Excuse the wild hair) The Cacti of The Desert tee is from Urban Outfitters, my K-Way rain jacket is from Urban Outfitters, and those light denim high-waisted shorts you see were thrifted (P.S Don't let your older siblings, especially your older brothers, stretch out shorts for you no matter how willing they are!! They will put them on, rip your pants, and force you to wait a week for the seamstress to stitch them back up before you can wear your adored shorts again-I know from experience)

Did I want you guys to see a closer view of my desert-y shirt or did I want to grace you all with a close-up of my somewhat existent boobage? The world may never know *EVILY CACKLES*

Black All-Star High Top Converse I also got from Urban Outfiters. My knee is bent out of habit. In the South, no matter how hard you try to resist it, you will end up posing in pictures with one hand on your hip and one knee bent *cringe* but it sorta looks cute right?

Neither Will Smith nor Ashley Banks from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air is a cactus, but in this photo, I took note of Ashley's outfit, especially her high-waisted, denim shorts. So, when I saw a pair that resembled her's, I had to get them and keep them-rip or no rip.

it was a beginning

First Set!

First Set! by subherbs featuring a wrap top
$350 -

I've neglected my polvore a lot :( BUT! I figured I'd share my first set. It's not really all that cohesive; it's more of a wishlist of pieces I wish I owned (I need a job) As for the magazine clippings, I don't know what they say, but they make this set feel so much more legitimate, right? Oh! And the album art you see is from a really great band called Gauntlet Hair. (Do I have a thing for broken up duo's now??)

get cozy w/ makeout videotape

Mac Demarco, such a doll

I think the world has become pretty familiar with Mac Demarco and his good-vibey music, free-spirit, and love affair with Viceroy cigarettes. BUT WHAT ABOUT ALEX?? WHICH ALEX? THIS ALEX

The boy next to Demarco is Alex Calder, the other half to Mac Demarco's origins Makeout Videotape. Together they created a gift..yes..they indeed had a baby together.. *cries* No but seriously these old friends from Canada created some pretty amazing tunes together from 2008-2011. If you're a fan of Mac Demarco, just imagine his current music times 100! Their sound could be described as indie lo-fi and a bit grungy- it's the kind of music that makes you yearn for sunny days and cool nights to do as many crazy things while you're still young.(That's so sappy but true!!) It's like background music for your wildest adventures to your quietest ones. (I still sound so sappy! Just click play on the links and you'll see what I mean) Here's a montage of some of my favorites and hopefully some of your soon-to-be favorites:

Amidst the dazed, humid atmosphere the hitting tambourines and deliberate guitar strums create are lyrics about real life, struggle and emotion. Like in Joe Buck, a hard-working "hustler man" is working hours trying to provide for his girl, despite his fatigue and fear. It's a love song like we've never heard before. Normally you'd expect these heavy,
sad pop ballads, but this duo gets their message across by staying true to their roots. "But then I get to thinking of you and it all don't seem so bad..But I keep on working just to keep me next to you"

Heat Wave is simply summer in a song. I guess you could say that literally, too.

tavi gevinson: a dedication

 Tavi Gevinson
I wanna say I was 14 when I initially came across Tavi Gevinson, my generation's teenage savior. I stumbled on her site Rookie, and I don't remember how or why I got there, so I left the site. Unknowingly I exited out of what would become my online mecca of sorts. My main source of inspiration and encouragement to embrace and pursue what I love. Thankfully, about 2 years later I discovered it again.

Photo by Petra Collins from the project The Teenage Gaze

I came across this photograph that had been showing up on my tumblr dash (check it out, check it outtt: for a while and it had a link in the description. I guess fate made me click on the link and I guess this is how this chapter of my life began. It was a Saturday, and the link took me to Rookie. It was EVERYTHING I enjoy, think about, and love doing and EVERYTHING I look for in potential friends in a town full of lemmings. Everything I wish my friends could love with me.

So, I spent hours immersing myself in this world that Tavi Gevinson created. A world that celebrated forever, being a teenager, art, fashion, life, and just figuring it out. The fact that Gevinson was around my age doing what she loves on such a grand scale shook my world! I remember thinking that before Rookie, I don't remember ever really being this inspired. Even though I had previously had a strong interest in the following, because of Gevinson, I really reconnected with art, inspiration, words, and fashion with more fascination and encouragement than ever before. It made me realize that I couldn't be a doctor for practical reasons only-it may bring me money, but not necessarilly happiness. I realized that I had to center my life around what would make me happy.

"One thing that I always liked about fashion was that it was tied in with music and art and film."

Tavi Gevinson is simply an icon.  She inspires me to leave my own footprint on the world and I think that's exactly what I'm going to do.

Bad Girls-Blood Orange This just sounds like somebody getting ready to do this in the rolling credits of the inevitable movie that will made about me *slides on retro sunglasses*

Stuck in the Suburbs

It's very easy to complain about living in a boring suburban town filled with likewise people and likewise dogs

Inspired by the ever-famous picture of The Beatles walking down Abbey lane, this is a photo my best friend took of me and a couple of friends at a journalism workshop. Pictured 4th from the left is your very own

It's a good song! I swear!

Hi people! Idk what else to say, but welcome to my style blog! :-)I set this blog up about 2 months ago, but have been at a standstill as to how I was going to kick it off. It's a lot of pressure when you have the likes of Tavi Gevinson changing the world as I type this. I was thinking, What's going to set the tone for this blog? How am I going to write this thing? But most importantly? How am I going to start? And I still have no idea. Just like I have no idea what exactly is style. I don't want to believe that it's just the clothes you wear and how you wear them-I want to believe that it's something way more than that. I think it's the music you listen to, the way you listen to music, the food you eat, the way you carry yourself, the things you love, what inspires you, the way you live. Style is your life and what you're doing, even when you're unaware. It's a little bit of the unknown.

This blog is going to showcase the things I love, so I'm going to leave y'all with something I really love right now. It's a really sweet, paradoxical song about oblivion, called Oblivion by a band called Indians(Disclaimer: I saw The Fault in Our Stars last night and I think I liked this song from the movie better than the actual motion picture)
